Shannon Upgrade FAQ
On June 3rd at 10AM PT, Pocket Network will perform a hard fork upgrading to the Shannon mainnet. The Morse version of the network will be archived for lookup, and be deprecated, with all relevant network parameters set to zero, and traffic being redirected to the Shannon mainnet.
What is the Shannon upgrade in simple terms?
The Shannon upgrade accomplishes two things:
- It broadly expands and optimizes the capabilities of Pocket Network to be fully permissionless, and to expand supported data types to include any form of open data, not just RPC.
- It upgrades the encryption keys from ed25519 to secp256k1, and makes Pocket a fully native Cosmos chain.
Is there a cutoff date I have to upgrade my POKT by?
Nope! Because Shannon contains a full archive of the history of the chain, you can claim your Morse account on Shannon at any time in the future. However, you will not be able to interact with the Shannon chain until you do.
Will the exchanges support Shannon after the upgrade?
We are working closely with our exchange partners to help them upgrade their systems as needed, and we don’t expect to encounter any difficulty in making that a smooth transition. A number of them have already fully finalized their migration plans. Please monitor communications from your exchange for their status.
I am holding POKT on ETH / SOL / Base. What do I need to do to upgrade?

Any POKT held in your Metamask or other EVM compatible wallets is automatically upgraded when the bridge is upgraded. Bridging essentially acts as an IOU for the native POKT, with a representative token on the EVM chains. If you bridge back after the upgrade, your claim will return Shannon POKT.
I am holding unstaked POKT in my wallet / on an exchange. What should I do?
Any POKT that is held on an exchange will be upgraded by the exchange itself. For users who have POKT in their own wallets, there are three easy options to upgrade:
- Bridge to defi – You can use the wPOKT bridge to move your POKT to the ETH chain. Any POKT bridged to wPOKT, or sitting on the Base or Solana chains using the multichain bridge will be upgraded automatically.
- Move to Soothe – You can import existing POKT wallets into the Soothe Vault, which supports both Morse and Shannon, and features a built in upgrade function.
- Keep it in the Pocket web wallet and wait for the update – Once the cutover is complete, the Pocket web wallet will be updated as well, and an upgrade function will be added soon after. It is perfectly fine to simply leave your POKT there and wait for the upgrade.
My POKT is staked with a provider. What do I need to do?
Your noderunner provider will do most of the heavy lifting on the upgrade. You’ll need to have a Shannon compatible wallet ready to update your output address. Your noderunner will provide instructions on their process after the cutover is complete on June 3rd.
I am running my own nodes. How do I upgrade them?
Full documentation is provided for a node / CLI based upgrade. Additionally, there are two UI tools being deployed which will give you additional options. Those links will be published here once they are live.
What wallets are compatible with Shannon?
Because the Shannon upgrade makes Pocket a fully native Cosmos chain, any Cosmos compatible wallet, like Keplr, can hold your POKT. For native wallet support with additional Pocket Network related functionality, we recommend either using Soothe Vault as a browser extension wallet, or the native Pocket Web Wallet, which will be upgraded on June 3rd with the cutover.
What do I need to do if I have my POKT in a Ledger wallet?
Because the Ledger upgrade life cycle is fairly long, the Ledger app will not be upgraded before the mainnet upgrade. You have several options, and all of them are safe:
- Move your POKT from Ledger to another POKT compatible wallet ahead of the upgrade.
- Leave it in your Ledger, and wait for the app to be updated. Note: this may take several months to complete, but your POKT will be safe the whole time.
- If your POKT is staked from your Ledger wallet, your provider may need to take extra steps to support this. Please contact them and let them know.
My nodes are currently unstaking and in cooldown. Will they be accessible after Shannon?
Yes. Nodes currently unstaking will follow the exact same process as staked nodes, and the remainder of their cooldown will occur on the Shannon side of the fork. Reach out to your noderunner provider for guidance on their stake migration process.
I don’t see my question answered here, how can I get it added?
This FAQ will be continuously updated through the upgrade, and we’re happy to add additional questions and answers as they come up. Please feel free to send them to jinx at pokt dot foundation, or on Discord at @thepoktopus
